Hi All
Im planning on a photowalk on Sunday 26th February to Battersea and wondered if any members would like to join me? The idea is to take in Battersea Park and then make our way to the power station and the developments around there. They also have a light festival at the moment with 8 different installations scattered around that should add some interest. A map of which is here – https://batterseapowerstation.co.uk/content/uploads/2023/01/Battersea-Power-Station-Light-Festival-Map.pdf For this reason Im intending to time the walk from late afternoon to sunset and blue hour. The map also has food options for when we get hungry.
Meeting time would be 3pm at East Croydon station and then it’s a short journey to Clapham Junction and then another train to Battersea Park.
Any questions then please post!

This a good shout as I understand from TV news reports that this area has only recently been opened up. Assuming nothing untoward crops up in the meantime, I hope to join you.

I’m interested in coming along to Battersea. I would meet you at Battersea Park around 3:30pm as it’s easier for me to get a train from West Norwood.
Thanks

Wally telephoned me yesterday saying he went up to Battersea and had a nightmare journey there and back due to engineering works.
I’ve just had a look and I think there may be problems again this weekend. It seems there is work between Selhurst and Purley and Clapham Junction to somewhere.

Wally also contacted me about this via email – his exact words were:
“…I just went to Battersea Power Station today (Sunday) and found there is a problem with trains. None move to Clapham junction during the weekend.I came home a different way to getting there.Of which I will not tell you about. I walked over Chelsea bridge because I wanted a classic look of the power station.I then caught a 24 along the embankment to Victoria and caught the underground (District line ) to Blackfriars and came home on the thameslink. You may be able to go via London Bridge to Battersea power Station but I don’t know which line gets you there.Good luck with that…”
Wally. So, I’m wondering whether it might be a good idea to postpone this outing until the trains are back to normal – if indeed that is ever likely to happen!

Ive checked the National Rail website and it does indeed state “Trains between East Croydon / Clapham Junction and Watford Junction will not run.” However, all is not lost! We can still get trains to either London Bridge or London Blackfriars. From there we get on the Northern Line to Battersea Power Station. It will take a bit longer given there is a reduced service but still doable. For that reason Im still happy to go along but understand if others want to have a re-think.
23/02/2023 at 10:01 #1329JeffwinParticipantIt looks like there are viable routes so I’m happy to go this weekend.
Hope to see you at 3pm on Sunday.

23/02/2023 at 11:04 #1331David NewmanParticipantIt seems there will be no issues on my journey as I’ll be travelling into Clapham Junction via the South Western Rail network and there don’t seem to be any problems on the short onward hop to Battersea Park via the Southern Rail network. So hopefully, I’ll meet you all at Battersea Park Station, at around 3:30pm.
FYI – The forecast suggests that although it’ll be quite cloudy and cold (circa 6-7 degrees) on Sunday afternoon, the likelihood of rain is less than 10%. So dress up warm!

24/02/2023 at 12:03 #1336Paul HeesterModeratorTo summarise:
I will meet Tina & Graham and Jeff at East Croydon at 3pm. We will then meet David & Keith at Battersea.
Think we will head into Battersea park first before it gets too dark to see if there are any daffodils, snow drops emerging before heading to the power station for dusk.
24/02/2023 at 19:40 #1341KeithParticipantJust to confirm I will be at Battersea Park station around 3:30pm so I will see you all there.
26/02/2023 at 12:01 #1345TinaParticipantHi All
Looking forward to our outing later.
Do we need a tripod and what lens does anyone recommend?
Tina26/02/2023 at 12:27 #1347TinaParticipantPS I think the trains are ok.
Tina
26/02/2023 at 12:41 #1349KeithParticipantHi Tina, I’m taking my tripod with me as I might do some long exposures. I’m also taking a wide angle and small zoom lens.
