Having trouble with Retro Rob his black hair with the black background, and using flash produced a shadow around him.

I missed this post. I think you’ve done great to bring out the tones in his jacket and hair, I know with my own shots his hair almost disappeared! The halo effect around his hair and top of the guitar can be easily cloned out.
PS if a judge were to say “if wish his eyes were open” then he’s compeletly missed the point as to me he’s just lost in the moment musically.
